Storms continue across parts of Texas this Wednesday evening, but we are not dealing with a major severe weather mess right now.
Showers and thunderstorms are ongoing across the Big Country, Concho Valley, and western Hill Country. A few storms may produce small hail up to quarter size, localized gusty winds, heavy rain, and plenty of cloud-to-ground lightning. A few severe thunderstorm warnings cannot be ruled out over the next few hours, but this is not a tornado setup, and we are not expecting giant hail or widespread 80 mph wind issues.
The bigger concern tonight into Thursday morning is heavy rain.
A cluster of storms is expected to move into Texas from Mexico overnight and into the pre-dawn hours Thursday. That should bring rain and storms to the Edwards Plateau, Hill Country, Rio Grande Plains, South Texas, Central Texas, and South Central Texas.
Places like Laredo, Del Rio, Uvalde, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, and nearby areas may have a wet Thursday morning commute. Heavy rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and localized flooding will be the main concerns.
Localized rain totals over 3 inches will be possible in spots, especially across the Edwards Plateau, Rio Grande Plains, South Texas, and parts of the Hill Country. That could lead to street flooding, low-water crossing issues, construction-zone flooding, and quick rises on creeks and streams.
Thursday also looks wet across the eastern half of Texas. The severe storm risk should remain low, but locally heavy rain and localized flooding may continue.
This is not a statewide high-end severe weather event tonight. It is a heavy rain and localized flooding setup. Keep an eye on radar overnight and be careful during the Thursday morning commute if you are in one of the wetter areas.
