Texas Storms Today, Then Triple-Digit Heat Builds

More storms are on the way in this Tuesday edition of the Texas Weather Roundup.

Today’s main storm focus is across North Texas, East Texas, and the ArkLaTex, where isolated severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening.

This is not an April or May tornado setup, but the strongest storms will have plenty of heat and humidity to work with. That means a few storms may produce:
• Localized damaging wind gusts
• Heavy rain
• Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning
• Isolated flash flooding
• Maybe a bit of hail

Storms should be most numerous this afternoon into the mid-evening across the eastern half of Texas. A few storms may try to move south into Central Texas, the Brazos Valley, and Southeast Texas with lightning, locally heavy rain, and gusty winds. Southwest Texas may also see a few storms today.

Wednesday should be less active as the heat dome moves a bit closer to Texas. That brings more sinking air, lower rain chances, and hotter temperatures. That hotter and less active trend should continue into Thursday and at least part of Friday.

By Wednesday and Thursday, more triple digits return across Texas, including parts of North Texas, West Texas, South Texas, the Panhandle, and the I-35 corridor.

Looking toward the weekend and early next week, rain chances may try to return. This does not look like one organized line of storms right now. Instead, it looks more like a summer pop-up pattern, with isolated to scattered storms possible in several parts of Texas.

Any weekend storms could produce lightning, locally heavy rain, and gusty winds.

Bottom line: storms are possible again today, especially across North Texas, East Texas, and the ArkLaTex. Then we heat up for a few days before scattered storm chances may return this weekend into next week.
