Edouard’s remnants are still making a mess, and we’re setting up for another round of flooding rain tonight into Thursday morning east of Dallas. Evening update for Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
WHERE IT IS RIGHT NOW
The center of Edouard’s remnant low is near Palestine, still carrying plenty of moisture with rain firing up northeast of Houston into East Texas.
We’ve got flash flood warnings again around Livingston up to Lufkin, likely Nacogdoches soon, plus a few severe thunderstorm warnings with damaging wind gusts. We’ve been monitoring some areas of weak rotation, but nothing has organized into a tornado threat. A couple of isolated showers extend back west into Central Texas.
HOUSTON TONIGHT
Short-range high-resolution models have been pretty determined about bringing heavy rain and a couple of strong storms to the north side of Houston this evening.
If that happens, someone could pick up 5 to 7 inches in a couple of hours. That’s just how Houston works — you get moisture, you get a thunderstorm, you get 5 inches in an hour, you get street flooding, people flood their cars out, and then the water’s gone two hours later because that’s what the drainage system was designed to do.
TONIGHT — A REPEAT OF LAST NIGHT
Expect the same behavior we saw overnight: moisture and thunderstorm activity concentrating near Edouard’s center of circulation.
That center is near Palestine now and looks to work up toward Tyler and over toward Canton overnight.
We’re concerned a solid area of rain sets up tonight into Thursday morning across southeastern and eastern North Texas and East Texas — 3, 5, 8, maybe even 10 inches.
Places to watch: Rusk, Jacksonville, up Highway 175 toward Athens, and into Van Zandt County, Hunt County and around Emory in Rains County.
With that kind of rain, flash flooding is possible. Street flooding, rises on creeks and streams, and hopefully nothing worse. But if someone ends up with 8 to 10 inches tonight, we could see water approaching structures. That’s what we’ll be watching into tomorrow morning.
THE CORRIDOR
Model guidance shows the overnight heavy rain corridor running from Rusk and Jacksonville up toward Tyler, Athens to Canton, on to Wills Point, Lake Tawakoni and even toward Quitman.
Exact placement depends on where Edouard’s remnant low-level circulation ends up, so this may shift. At this point it looks to stay east of Dallas.
THURSDAY
Scattered thunderstorms pop up across the eastern half of Texas. Some could produce gusty winds, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning and more heavy rain.
We may have another video out around 10 PM with the latest overnight forecast if things stay active.
