Texas Weather Roundup, Thursday, October 15, 2026.

YESTERDAY’S STORMS
It was active. There was one confirmed tornado northeast of Fort Stockton, a few tornado warnings in Northwest Texas, and plenty of severe thunderstorm warnings. Flash flood warnings piled up overnight into this morning.

MORE HEAVY RAIN TODAY
More heavy rain this afternoon into tonight across Northwest Texas, the Big Country, the Concho Valley, the northern Edwards Plateau and maybe the western Hill Country. Some storms reach North Texas tonight. The severe risk is very low today.

WPC is focused tonight on the eastern Big Bend, southern Concho Valley and western Hill Country, where the flood threat could get higher. That means rapid rises on creeks and flooded low-water crossings.

Another 1 to 4 inches is possible across the Big Country, Concho Valley, eastern Big Bend, western Hill Country and Northwest Texas, with isolated spots over 6. It doesn’t make it much east of I-35, so the eastern half gets very little.

CRASHY THE COLD FRONT
Our first real Crashy the Cold Front of the fall moves through tonight. North winds howl across the northern half of Texas by tomorrow morning and reach all of Texas by tomorrow afternoon, gusting over 40 mph.

Secure your outdoor decorations and lawn furniture tonight. If you don’t, it’s going flying.

DROUGHT & FIRE DANGER
Nearly all of Texas is abnormally dry or in drought. This week’s rain should help Northwest Texas, the Big Country and Concho Valley on next week’s map, but the east needs rain badly.

Friday, Very High to Extreme fire danger covers the eastern half of the state, with strong north winds and plummeting humidity. Saturday, it stays Very High across the eastern third down to the Coastal Plains, Coastal Bend and South Texas. Please don’t burn.

FRIDAY HIGHS LOOK LIKE LOWS
If you mistake this for a low temperature forecast, I understand. These are the highs: 50s across the western third with wind chills in the 40s, 62 in Wichita Falls, 66 in Fort Worth, 69 in College Station, 71 in Austin, 73 in San Antonio and 77 in Houston. Corpus Christi and Laredo may hit their highs late morning before the front, and the Valley stays in the 80s.

SATURDAY MORNING FREEZE
A freeze is now expected across a decent chunk of the Panhandle, skirting into West Texas: 28 in Dalhart, 32 in Amarillo and Pampa. Dallam County could see a hard freeze in the mid-20s, with wind chills in the upper teens.

Also 30s in the Permian Basin and Davis Mountains, maybe a 39 in the western Hill Country, 41 in Wichita Falls, 46 in Kerrville, 48 in Fort Worth, 50 in Dallas and Waco, 51 in Austin, 53 in San Antonio and 57 in Houston.

Saturday highs: 50s in West Texas and the Big Bend, 60s in DFW, and 60s to 70s in Central Texas and the Hill Country.

THE WEEKEND & NEXT WEEK
Sunday morning is another cold one, with 30s and 40s across much of western and northern Texas, 40s from the Piney Woods to the Golden Triangle, 48 in College Station and 55 in Houston. Sunday highs run 60s and 70s, with a slow warm-up into the 70s and low 80s Monday.

The rest of next week warms back into the 80s, and the next system could bring rain back to the western half late in the week.
