El Niño vs. La Niña: What It Means for Texas Winters

El Niño vs. La Niña: what's the difference for Texas? It comes down to the jet stream. Meteorologist Trey Greenwood of Convective Chronicles explains.

In a La Niña, the jet stream is a lot more amplified. The northern half of the country tends to run wetter and cooler, and the southern half, including Texas, drier and warmer.

The opposite is true for an El Niño. The jet stream gets shunted farther south, so cooler and wetter conditions tend to take hold across the southern half of the country, while the northern half is often drier and warmer.
