Meteorologist Trey Greenwood from Convective Chronicles breaks down the science behind the upcoming week in Texas weather. After several quiet weeks across the state, that pattern largely continues, with no severe weather expected anywhere in Texas.
The main story this week is a sharp cold front moving through today, bringing a cold and windy start to the week. Overnight lows will fall into the 20s and 30s across much of Texas, with highs struggling in the 40s and 50s Monday and Tuesday. Trey explains how a deepening upper-level trough and strengthening surface low drive this cold blast.
As the week progresses, a ridge of high pressure builds back in, allowing temperatures to rebound quickly. Most of Texas warms back into the 60s and 70s by mid to late week, with quiet weather returning for the weekend. A weak disturbance may bring isolated showers to parts of East Texas late Thursday into Friday, but no severe weather is expected.
Trey also highlights elevated fire weather conditions today and Monday across West and Northwest Texas, including the Panhandle and South Plains, where strong winds and very dry air could lead to rapid fire spread.
This video walks through the setup at 500mb, surface evolution, wind and temperature changes, and why Texas remains largely protected from severe weather this week.
