Good evening, I’m Texas Storm Chasers’ Baldy-in-Chief David Reimer with an 8PM update on severe weather across the Texas Panhandle.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect northwest of Dalhart near Texline, with a storm capable of producing baseball size hail and winds over 70 mph. This storm is moving southeast along Highway 87 and could approach Dalhart by 9:30PM.
Additional strong to borderline severe storms are ongoing near Dumas, Borger, Pampa, and Shamrock, producing lightning, heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail. More storms are expected to fire along and north of I-40 overnight and track east to southeast.
Meanwhile, a flash flood warning is in effect for the north side of El Paso, including Franklin Mountain State Park and I-10 on the city’s west side. Street flooding and quick rises on creeks are possible through 9PM Mountain (10PM Central).
Expect an active night across the Panhandle with multiple rounds of storms, heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and the risk for large to very large hail. The tornado threat is very low, but not zero.
