Thanksgiving Weather in Texas: Drier Weather, Then an Arctic Front This Weekend

Storms in South Texas kicked off this Wednesday with hail, heavy rain, and localized flooding. Fortunately, conditions will improve later today and stay quiet for Thanksgiving. But the break won’t last long. A stronger storm system and a legitimate arctic cold front arrive this weekend, bringing colder temperatures, rain chances, and even the potential for light wintry weather in the Panhandle early next week.

Here’s your full Wednesday weather breakdown for November 26, 2025.

Thanksgiving Day Forecast

Thanksgiving Day continues to look excellent across Texas. No significant hazards are expected anywhere in the state.

Temperatures:
• Upper 50s to low 60s in North Texas
• 60s and 70s in Central Texas
• 70s in South Texas

Clouds will increase during the afternoon, but overall conditions remain quiet and travel-friendly.

Friday: Clouds Return and Moisture Increases

Beginning Friday morning, low clouds, fog, and mist will spread across much of Texas as moisture returns ahead of the next upper-level disturbance.

Weekend Storm System (Friday Night–Saturday)

A new system arrives Friday night through Saturday, bringing:

• Scattered rain across the eastern two-thirds of Texas
• Heavier rain possible from the coastal bend into Deep South Texas
• No major severe weather expected at this time
• Potential for minor runoff where soils remain saturated

This system exits late Saturday or early Sunday.

Arctic Front Arrives Late Weekend Into Monday

Behind the weekend disturbance, a stronger arctic front digs into Texas.

Sunday Forecast:

• 30s–40s northwest half of Texas
• 40s–50s Central/North Texas
• 60s–70s along the coast (falling rapidly late)
• Strong north winds with sharp temperature drops

Monday Forecast:

• Widespread 30s and 40s north
• 50s–60s south
• Wind chills noticeably colder

Light Snow Possible in the Panhandle

Early next week, cold enough air may overlap lingering moisture in the Panhandle, possibly along the Red River as well.

This does not look like a winter storm. But:

• Light snow
• Flurries
• Minor accumulation

…are all on the table for the Panhandle region.

TxDOT has already begun brine pretreatment in the region.

Next Week’s Climate Outlook

The Climate Prediction Center favors:

• Below-average temperatures across most of Texas
• Near or above-average precipitation chances

We’ll watch Monday’s system carefully for any wintry mischief.
