This is a post-event flood report, not a forecast.
In this Texas Weather Roundup / Texas Storm Chasers report, we break down what happened after three days of heavy rain across parts of Central Texas, South-Central Texas, and the San Antonio corridor. We go through the official National Weather Service rainfall report list, the corridor of heaviest rain from around Comal, Guadalupe, and Bexar counties, and the major creek and river responses that followed.
This report also covers:
• official NWS rain totals
• Salado Creek at Loop 13 rising above flood stage
• the major surge on the San Antonio River at Elmendorf
• the near-record crest on Willis Creek near Granger
• flood impacts in San Antonio
• rapid rises and evacuations near the Georgetown / Williamson County area
The big takeaway from this event was simple: too much rain fell too quickly over areas that could not handle the runoff, and that translated into dangerous flooding, rapid creek rises, and continued downstream water movement even after some sites had already crested.
If you’re in one of the harder-hit areas, stay alert around creeks, rivers, and low-water crossings, and never drive into flooded roadways.
