Texas Rain Ends Tonight, Then a Cool and Beautiful Weekend Ahead

It is a wet, chilly start to May across a good chunk of Texas, but the widespread rain and storms should begin ending from west to east later today and tonight.

For most Texans, this has been beneficial rain. We still need to watch for localized flooding, especially where several inches of rain have fallen. Creeks and streams may continue running high and fast, and low-water crossings could remain dangerous even after the rain ends. A few stronger storms may also continue near the immediate coast this afternoon, mainly with hail and gusty winds, while the tornado risk stays very low.

The good news: the weekend looks much quieter and much nicer for most of Texas. Temperatures will stay on the cool side for early May, with chilly mornings, pleasant afternoons, and much less active weather statewide. Rain and storm chances may return by Tuesday or Wednesday next week, with another possible wetter system next weekend.

In this Texas Weather Roundup:
• Wet and chilly Friday across Texas
• Rain and storms ending from west to east tonight
• Localized flooding and high creek concerns
• Limited severe storm risk near the immediate coast
• Light freeze or frost possible in the northwestern Panhandle
• Cool, dry, beautiful weekend ahead
• Storm chances may return next week
