Hurricane Helene landed last evening in the Big Bend of Florida as a major hurricane. As the system moves north, impacts will continue today, from historic fresh-water flooding to strong winds. The only weather we’ll see in Texas is increasing upper-level cloud cover tonight and on Saturday across Texoma and Northeast Texas.
It’s been a long week, and the weather will be quiet and calm across Texas over the next several days. Beginning Sunday, the only chance of scattered rain will be in Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Even those precipitation totals look light, mostly offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
Warm to downright hot afternoons will contrast with relatively cool, pleasant evenings as a decently dry airmass continues across the state into early next week. Long-range weather model ensemble data suggests we must monitor the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico for another tropical system in about seven to nine days or the second half of next week.
