This morning was quite eventful with snow covering the Panhandle, Northwest Texas, Texoma, North Texas, and Northeast Texas, and the snowy conditions have already carried into the afternoon! We’ve even seen some rain joining the mix across the D/FW Metroplex as the transition from rain to snow shifts north of Interstate 20.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to see things ramp up again after sunset as temperatures dip and heavier snow is expected in those same regions. It looks like we could see significant snow accumulations of 3-7 inches from the D/FW Metroplex northward into Texoma, as well as across Southern and Southeastern Oklahoma and Northeast Texas throughout this evening, tonight, and early Friday morning.
Additionally, we’re on the lookout for more substantial snow from Hereford to Amarillo to Pampa and Canadian, where a heavy snow band has already dropped around half a foot of snow today. Another half foot might fall through tonight!
While the sun has been helpful in keeping roads manageable today, especially away from the heaviest snow bands, we do anticipate some tricky travel conditions this evening, tonight, and into Friday morning across the Panhandle, Northwest Texas, Texoma, Big Country, North Texas including all of the D/FW Metroplex, and Northeast Texas.
The snow line will move southeast tonight into early Friday morning, bringing a quick burst of wet snow to parts of the northern Hill Country, southern North Texas, and possibly even to northern Central Texas, the northern Brazos Valley, and parts of East Texas. Unlike areas farther north, those regions are likely to stay a bit warmer, allowing for a quick dusting to an inch of wet snow to accumulate before it melts away. Meanwhile, heavy rain will continue to sweep across the southeastern half of Texas tonight, but temperatures should remain safely above freezing! Road conditions will improve late Friday morning through Friday afternoon; but with temperatures into the teens and twenties Friday night, any water or snow on roads will freeze up into ice.
